முஸ்லிம்களிடையே பிரிவினைவாதமோ பயங்க்ரவாதமோ இல்லை

83 கறுப்பு ஜுலைக்கான காரணம் எல்.ரி.ரி.ஈ.யின் போபோ பிராவோ தாக்குதல் மூலம் இலங்கை இராணுவத்தின் 13 உறுப்பினர்களை கொன்றமையாகும். இருப்பினும் அக்காலப் பகுதியில் இந்நாட்டு அரசியலில் மற்றும் சிவில் சமூகத்தின் மத்தியில் நிலவிய இனவாத போக்கு இல்லாமலிருந்தால் கறுப்பு ஜலையை நிச்சயம் தடுத்திருக்க முடியும்.

அமைச்சர் சிறில் மெதிவ் உட்பட அரச தரப்பிலும் எதிர்தரப்பு அரசியல்வாதிகளும் மற்றும் புத்தஜீவிகள் சிலரும் இந்த சிங்கள இனவாதத்துக்கு உயிர் ஊட்டினர். ஆயுதம் தாங்கி பிரிவினைவாதத்துக்கு துணைபோன தமிழர்களுக்கும் ஜனநாயக தமிழர்களுக்கும் இடையிலான வேறுபாட்டையும் ஒன்றுபடுத்தி இவர்கள் அனைவரும் சிங்கள இனத்துக்கு துரோகம் இழைக்கும் எதிரிகள் என்ற மனநிலையை தெற்கில் உருவாக்க இவர்கள் பாரிய பங்களிப்பை செய்தனர். புலிகள் இயக்கம் செய்த குற்றங்களுக்கு தெற்கில் நிராயுத அப்பாவி தமிழ் இனத்தவரை (குழந்தைகள், வயோதிபர்கள் உட்பட) பழிவாங்கும் நிலை உருவாகியது இவ்விதமே.

கறுப்பு ஜுலையில் சாதாரண தமிழ் மக்கள் துன்பங்களை அனுபவித்தனர். இருப்பினும் சிங்களவர்களுக்கு எந்த நன்மையும் கிடையாது. நன்மை கிடைத்தது புலிகளுக்கேயாகும். எல்.ரி.ரி.ஈ.யினர் சிறிய குழுவாக இருந்து உலகம் பூராகவும் விஸ்தரிக்கப்பட்டு பாரிய இயக்கமாக வளர்வதற்கு கறுப்பு ஜுலைதான் காரணம்.

கறுப்பு ஜுலைக்கு பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் தெற்கில் பரவியிருந்த இனவாத நோய்க்கு சமமான நோய் ஒன்றின் அறிகுறிகளை இப்போது காணமுடிகின்றது. கறுப்பு ஜுலைக்கு வழிவகுத்த வெறித்தனமான போக்கு தெற்கின் சமூகத்துக்குள் தானாகவே வரவில்லை. தமது பல்வேறுபட்ட தேவைகளை பூர்த்தி செய்து கொள்வதற்காக இந்த நச்சுவிதையை திட்டமிட்டு சமூகத்துக்குள் வளர்ப்பதற்கு பிற்போக்குவாத சிங்கள அரசியல்வாதிகள் மற்றும் புத்திஜீவிகளால் முடிந்தது. அவ்வாறான நச்சுவிதை விதைப்பில் அவசரமாக ஈடுபட்டுள்ளதை காணக்கூடியதாக உள்ளது. இதில் ஈடுபடுவது ஜாதிக ஹெல உறுமயவாகும். அவர்களின் விளைச்சல் நிலம் கிழக்கு மாகாணமாகும். நச்சுவிதை முஸ்லிம் அச்சம்.

பல்வேறுபட்ட அரசியல் மற்றும் கருத்துக்களின் நிலைப்பாட்டுக்கு இடையிலான வேறுபாட்டை காணாததும் மற்றும் கவனத்தில் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளாததும் பிற்போக்குவாதிகளின் விசேட அம்சமாகும். புலிகளின் நடவடிக்கை இதற்கு நல்லதோர் உதாரணமாகும். புலிகளின் உலகத்தில் எதிரி அல்லது நண்பன் என்ற வேறுபாடு இல்லை. அவர்களின் நோக்கத்துக்கு அமைய தமக்கு எதிரான கருத்தை கொண்டிருப்பவர்கள் அனைவரும் தமது எதிரிகளேயாகும். எல்.ரி.ரி.ஈ.னரின் இந்த பிற்போக்குவாதத்தின் புதிய வெளியீடு கடந்த வாரத்தில் இடம்பெற்ற மகேஸ்வரி வேலாயுதத்தின் கொலையாகும்.

வேலாயுதம் ஈ.பி.டி.பி. அமைச்சர் டக்ளஸ் தேவானந்தாவின் ஆலோசகராகவும் இருந்துள்ளார். அதனோடு அவர் மனித உரிமை செயற்பாட்டாளராகவும் இருந்தார். மனித உரிமைக்கு உள்ளானவர் எவராக இருந்தாலும் அரசியல் வேறுபாடின்றி எதிரி நண்பன் என்று பாராது உதவுவது அவரின் பழக்கமாகும். அதேபோன்று அவர் நிராயுத அரசியல் செயற்பாட்டாளராகவும் திகழ்ந்தார். இந்த வேறுபாடு எதுவும் புலிகளுக்கு அவசியமாக இருக்கவில்லை. தமது நம்பிக்கைக்கு அமைய அரசியலில் ஈடுபடும் உரிமை வேலாயுதத்துக்கு இருப்பதை புலிகள் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளவில்லை. அதனால் அவர்கள் நோயுற்று படுக்கையில் இருந்த தனது தாயை பார்க்க யாழ்ப்பாணம் சென்ற திருமதி வேலாயுதத்தை கொலை செய்தனர்.

பிற்போக்குவாதிகள் கவனத்தில் எடுக்காதது நல்லது கெட்டதுமல்ல. பிற்போக்கு உத்திகள் துரோக நோக்கத்துடன் மட்டுமன்றி சுய அழிவுக்கு வழிவகுக்கும். இன்று உலகத்தில் அனேகமான நாடுகள் எல்.ரி.ரி.ஈ. இயக்கத்தை தடை செய்திருப்பது புலிகளின் பிற்போக்குவாத செயல்பாட்டின் காரணமாகவேதான். சிங்கள, தமிழ், முஸ்லிம் மக்கள் சமமாக வாழும் கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தில் சமாதானத்தை காப்பாற்றுவதற்கு இந்த மூவினத்துக்கிடையில் நல்லெண்ணத்தை கட்டியெழுப்ப வேண்டும். கிழக்கில் எந்தவொரு இடத்திலாவது இன மோதல் ஒன்று ஏற்பட்டால் அது முழு மாகாணத்தையும் தீக்கிரையாக்க வழிவகுக்கும். ஜாதிக ஹெல உறுமய தற்போது மிக ஆர்வத்துடன் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தும் முஸ்லிம் விரோத சொற்போரை நாம் இந்த கண்ணோட்டத்துடனே பார்க்க வேண்டியுள்ளது.

ஜாதிக ஹெல உறுமய இல்லாத ஒருநோயை உருவாக்கி அதைக் குணப்படுத்த முன்வருகின்றது. அவர்கள் முஸ்லிம் பயங்கரவாதத்தை பற்றி முஸ்லிம் பிரிவினைவாதத்தை பற்றி பேசுகின்றனர். இந்நாட்டில் எந்தவொரு முஸ்லிம் தலைவரும் பிரிவினை வாதத்தை பற்றி பேசுவதில்லை. இவர்களில் ஒரு சிலர் முஸ்லிம்கள் பெரும்பாலும் வாழும் மாவட்டத்துக்கு தனியான நிர்வாக அலகொன்றை கோரியிருக்கலாம். இது ஒன்றும் பிரிவினைவாதமல்ல. அதிகார பரவலாக்கலாகும்.

கிழக்கில் ஒரு சில பகுதிகளில் முஸ்லிம் இளைஞர்கள் சில சிறிய ஆயுதங்களை வைத்திருந்தாலும் அது இலங்கை அரசுக்கு எதிராக அல்ல. புலிகளின் அச்சுறுத்தலில் இருந்து தமது கிராம மக்களை பாதுகாத்துக் கொள்வதற்காகும். உண்மை என்னவென்றால் முஸ்லிம் பிரிவினை வாதமோ அல்லது முஸ்லிம் பயங்கரவாதமோ இதுவரை இந்த நாட்டில் இல்லை. இல்லாத அச்சுறுத்தல்கள் இடையூறுகளை காண்பது பிற்போக்குவாத கருத்துக்களுடையவர்களின் பிரதான குணாதிசயங்களாகும்.

உதாரணமாக அமெரிக்காவில் சில பிற்போக்குவாத கிறிஸ்தவ பிரிவுகளின் நடத்தையை எடுத்துக் காட்டலாம். அவர்களின் முறுமுறுப்பு மற்றும் ஜாதிக ஹெல உறுமயவின் கூற்றுக்கிடையில் மிக அபூர்வமான ஒற்றுமை நிலவுகின்றது. முஸ்லிம்கள் நஸரிஸ்தான் என்ற தனியான இராச்சியத்தை இலங்கையில் உருவாக்குவதற்கு உரித்தானதாக இருந்த அமெரிக்கன் பிராந்தியங்களில் அஸ்ட்லான் என்ற தனியான லத்தீன் இராஜ்யம் ஒன்றை உருவாக்குவதற்கு அமெரிக்காவில் வாழுகின்ற லத்தீனர்கள் சூழ்ச்சியொன்றை செய்தார்கள் என்கிறது.

சிங்கள பௌத்த தலைவர்களை நோய்க்குள்ளாக்கி கொலை செய்யும் கிறிஸ்தியானி சூழ்ச்சியொன்று இருப்பதாக ஒரு சில பிற்போக்குவாதிகள் கூறுகிறார்கள். அமெரிக்காவுக்கு தோல் நோய் (லாதுரு) பரப்பும் வெளிநாட்டு சூழ்ச்சியிருப்பதாக துரும்பையும் பெரும் மலையாக்கும் போக்கு உலகத்தின் அனைத்து பிற்போக்குவாதிகளுக்கும் பொதுவானது என்று இதன் மூலம் தெரிகின்றது.

சுனாமியால் பெரும் பாதிப்புக்குள்ளான பகுதி கிழக்கு மாகாணமாகும். விசேடமாக அங்கு வாழ்கின்றவர்கள் முஸ்லிம்களாகும். கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தின் சுனாமி அகதிகளாக இருப்பவர்களுக்கு இன்னும் நிரந்தர வீடுகள் இல்லை. இந்த அகதிகள் சிலருக்கு வீடுகள் நிரமாணிப்பதற்கு சவூதிஅரேபியாவில் உள்ள ரெட்கிரெசன்ட் அமைப்பின் உதவியில் ஹிங்குராணை சீனி தொழிற்சாலைக்கு சொந்தமான காணியில் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்த திட்டத்துக்கு எதிராக ஜாதிக ஹெல உறுமய வழக்கு தாக்கல் செய்துள்ளது. இந்த வீடமைப்பு திட்டம் தீகவாபி புண்ணிய பூமிக்கு அருகாமையில் இருப்பதாகவும் இப்பிரதேசத்தில் சிங்கள பௌத்தர்களுக்கு வீடுகள் கிடைக்காததால் அவர்களுக்கு அநீதி இழைக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளதாகவும் ஜாதிக ஹெல உறுமய வாதிக்கின்றது.

சிறில் மெதிவ் ஜே.ஆர். ஜயவர்தனவின் அமைச்சரவையில் அங்கம் வகித்துக் கொண்டுதான் நாடு பூராகவும் தமிழ் விரோத போக்கை விதைத்தார். அவரின் போக்கின் பயங்கர தன்மையை புரிந்துகொண்டதால்தான் அதன்பின் அதிகதாரத்துக்கு வந்த எந்த ஒரு அரசாங்கமும் இவ்வாறான சொற்பிரயோகங்களில் ஈடுபடுவதற்கு தமது அமைச்சர்களுக்கு இடம் கொடுக்கவில்லை.

மஹிந்த ராஜபக்ஸவின் அரசின் கீழ் இந்த நிலை மாறியுள்ளது. முஸ்லிம் விரோத போக்கு மட்டுமல்ல. தமிழ் மற்றும் கிறிஸ்தவ விரோத சொற்பிரயோகங்களில் அடிக்கடி ஈடுபடும் சம்பிக்க ரணவக்க ராஜபக்ஸ பங்காளி கட்சியாகும். இதனால் இவர்களின் பிற்போக்குவாதத்தின் ஒரு பகுதி அரசு மீதும் ஜனாதிபதி மீதும் சுமத்தப்படுகின்றதை தவிர்க்க முடியாது. கறுப்பு ஜுலையை உருவாக்குவதற்கான பின்னணியை தயார் செய்வதற்கு அன்று ஜே.ஆர். ஜயவர்தன தமது அரசாங்கத்தின் சிலருக்கு வழிகொடுத்தார். அதன் பயங்கரத்தன்மையை உணரும்போது காலம் கடந்துவிட்டது. அன்று ஆரம்பித்த ஈழப்போர் இன்றும் முடியவில்லை. நாம் தற்போது தயாராகுவது இன்னுமோர் இனவாத யுத்தத்துக்கான பின்னணியை தயார் படுத்துவதற்காகவா?

கிழக்கு மாகாண முஸ்லிம் மக்களை ஏமாற்றும் நடவடிக்கையில் எம்.எல்.ஏ.எம்.ஹிஸ்புல்லா மீண்டும் இறங்கியிருப்பதாக சிறிலங்கா முஸ்லிம் காங்கிரஸ் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

எம்.எல்.ஏ.எம்.ஹிஸ்புல்லா ஆளும் கட்சியுடன் இணைந்து கிழக்கு மாகாண அமைச்சுப் பொறுப்புக்களை மீண்டும் ஏற்கவுள்ளார் என்று செய்திகள் வெளியாகிய பின்னணியிலேயே முஸ்லிம் காங்கிரஸ் மேற்கண்டவாறு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

முஸ்லிம் காங்கிரசின் சார்பில் கிழக்கு மாகாண சபை உறுப்பினர் பசீர் சேகுதாவூத் விடுத்திருக்கும் அறிக்கையில் மேலும் தெரிவித்துள்ளதாவது:

அரச தரப்பினரும் எம்.எல்.ஏ.எம்.ஹிஸ்புல்லாவும் வாக்குறுதிகளை மீறிப் பழக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் என்ற அடிப்படையில் முஸ்லிம் அமைச்சர்களின் ஏற்பாட்டில் புதிதாக இரண்டு கோரிக்கைகளை முன்வைப்பதாக தெரிவித்து வருகின்றனர்.

முதலமைச்சர் பதவி எட்டாக்கனியான நிலையில் கிழக்கு மாகாண அமைச்சரவையில் கல்வி மற்றும் காணி விவகாரங்கள் அடங்கிய அமைச்சுப் பதவியை எம்.எல்.ஏ.எம்.ஹிஸ்புல்லாவுக்கு வழங்குமாறும் அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து சுழற்சி முறை அடிப்படையில் முதலமைச்சர் பதவியை வழங்குமாறும் புதிதாக கதை அளக்க ஆரம்பித்துள்ளனர்.

ஜாதிக ஹெல உறுமய கட்சியினரின் ஆலோசனைக்கு அமைவாக ஏற்கனவே திட்டமிடப்பட்டதன் பிரகாரம் கல்வி மற்றும் காணி விவகார அமைச்சு பெரும்பான்மை இனத்தவர் ஒருவருக்கு வழங்கப்பட்டு விட்டது.

பேரினவாத நிகழ்ச்சி நிரலுக்கு அமைவாக இந்த அமைச்சுப் பதவி ஏற்கனவே வழங்கப்பட்டு விட்டதால் இதனைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்வது என்பது எம்.எல்.ஏ.எம்.ஹிஸ்புல்லாவுக்கு சாத்தியமற்ற ஒன்றாகவே தென்படுகின்றது.

எனவே இந்த அமைச்சுக் கோரிக்கையுடன் சேர்ந்து மற்றுமொரு அவநம்பிக்கை கோரிக்கையையும் இவர்கள் முன்வைத்துள்ளனர். சுழற்சி முறையிலான முதலமைச்சர் பதவி என்பதே அந்தக் கோரிக்கையாகும்.

சுழற்சி முறையிலான பதவிக்கோரிக்கைக்கு எம்.எல்.ஏ.எம்.ஹிஸ்புல்லா எந்தவிதமான தார்மீக அருகதையும் அற்றவர் ஆவார்.

1989 ஆம் ஆண்டு தொடக்கம் 2004 ஆம் ஆண்டுவரை மடடக்களப்பு மாவட்ட நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் பதவியை ஓட்டமாவடி மற்றும் ஏறாவூர் பிரதேச வேட்பாளர்களுக்கு சுழற்சி முறையில் வழங்குவதாகக் கூறி வாக்கு மீறியவர் இந்த எம்.எல்.ஏ.எம்.ஹிஸ்புல்லா ஆவார்.

எனவே சுழற்சி முறையிலான கோரிக்கையை முன்வைப்பதற்கு இவருக்கு எவ்வித தார்மீக உரிமையும் கிடையாது.

ஏற்கனவே பொய் வாக்குறுதிகளை வழங்கி மக்களை ஏமாற்றியவர் என்ற அடிப்படையில் எம்.எல்.ஏ.எம்.ஹிஸ்புல்லாவை மற்றவர்கள் ஏமாற்றுவதற்கான உரிமையை அவர் ஏற்கனவே வழங்கியுள்ளார். இந்த அடிப்படையிலேயே அவர் தொடர்பான விடயங்கள் தற்போது நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன.

எனவே மக்களை ஏமாற்றும் நோக்கத்துடனேயே இவ்வாறான கோரிக்கைகளை எம்.எல்.ஏ.எம்.ஹிஸ்புல்லா முன்வைப்பதாக தெட்டத்தெளிவாகத் தென்படுகின்றது.

முஸ்லிம் மக்களை தொடர்ச்சியாக ஏமாற்றும் நோக்கிலேயே இவர்கள் இவ்வாறான விடயங்களைக் கூறிவருகின்றனர். எனவே இவ்வாறான ஏமாற்று வார்த்தைகளை நம்பி முஸ்லிம் மக்கள் மீண்டும் ஒரு தடவை ஏமாந்துவிடக் கூடாது என்று அதில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது.

APRIL 30, 2008SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem is confident of an SLMC-UNP victory in the Eastern Province – on the condition the elections are free and fair. However, he opined that the government, assisting armed groups within its fold to terrorise Tamil voters, has already resulted in prevention of the free will of the Tamil voters being exercised.

In an interview with The Nation, he emphasised that the combined strength of the SLMC and the UNP vote banks would garner the necessary votes to get past the UPFA in both Trincomalee and Ampara Districts, although government machinery would be “in full swing to engage in maximum rigging.”

Speaking of the defection by his erstwhile lieutenant Hisbullah, Hakeem asserted that the people would teach Hisbullah “the lesson of his life” this time. He also spoke of the party decision to contest under the ‘Elephant’ symbol, asserting that “a symbol is only a means to an end.”

Following are excerpts: By Marianne David

Q: Why didn’t you agree to a Muslim alliance to contest the Eastern Province elections?

The SLMC is the predominant political force among the Muslims and we were quite willing to accommodate all dissident factions to appease and accommodate the request from the variety of religious and community-based, as well as regional mosque federations.

These attempts, unfortunately, lacked sincerity. We also realised that dissident members within the government had realised their weakness in getting the Muslims to vote for the UPFA.

Their motive appeared to be that, initially, they wanted to give the impression of willing to unite and that only the intransigence and stubbornness of the SLMC leadership not willing to compromise on its symbol, being the main reason for the failure of these attempts. This would finally be utilised by them to have an excuse to remain in the UPFA.

We realised this ploy from the very outset and the rank and file would never permit the leadership to dilute its identity in such a hotchpotch coalition of various dissident factions.

On the other hand, going by the past record of all these dissidents, what guarantee would we have that these people would remain within the fold of this coalition after the election?

I do not think that any of these well-meaning attempts by any given organisation would ensure any anti-defection formulas. Therefore, the decision that we took, finally, was a carefully considered, prudent one, which gives the best option to the Muslims, in the given circumstances.

Q: All Muslim parties had, apparently, agreed to join the UNP with you, but you had allegedly said that you had nothing to do with the UNP. Could you explain?

No such thing happened. All the dissidents insisted that we either join the UPFA or go it alone together, and in that case, under a common symbol. In both cases, the motive was to make the UPFA victorious. There was no guarantee, even if we did contest with the UPFA, that we would be able to overtake the Pillaiyan Group, in getting the largest number of seats and thereby, stake a claim for power within that coalition.

Q: What are your prospects of winning the province?

We are absolutely confident of winning, in the event there is a free and fair election. In any case, the events leading up to the nominations clearly show that the government has assisted armed groups within their fold to terrorise Tamil voters sufficiently enough to prevent anyone from taking an independent decision to contest under any other party. Thereby, exercise of the free will of the Tamil voters has already been prevented.

M.L.M. Hisbullah has already joined the government. Has his defection adversely affected your vote bank?

Hisbullah is known for his long record of treachery, and the people will teach him the lesson of his life this time. His opportunism and hypocrisy is well known and is despised by, not only the people of Kattankudi but, by Muslims all over the country.

Q: What are the advantages of contesting under the ‘Elephant’ symbol?

The combined strength of the SLMC’s vote bank and that of the UNP will certainly garner the necessary votes to get past the UPFA in both Trincomalee and Ampara Districts, provided the Tamil voters are allowed a free choice. In Batticaloa, the ground situation does not favour the poor and hapless Tamil civilians.

Though the climate of intimidation and harassment is somewhat less in Trincomalee and Ampara, the government machinery will be in full swing to engage in maximum rigging to distort the mandate of the people. Many candidates have been prevented from coming forward to contest and there is a heavy presence of the Pillaiyan Group in all the areas.

Q: Why did you compromise your symbol for the Elephant, after you told the Muslim parties that it was sacred?

A symbol is only a means to an end and not an end in itself. We are not going to compromise our identity and dilute it for the sake of a few dissidents. However, when contesting with a major national party with a large vote bank of its own, there could be much advantage in pooling resources together and aiming for the winning numbers.

Muslim leaders, in government, do not have any substantive vote bank, particularly, given their track record of betrayals and silence in the face of attempts by the government to grab the rights of the Muslims. There was nothing much we could gain by joining them, although they would be gaining by being on our list. As a result, there was no need for us to compromise our symbol. Doing so would have been seen as a total cave-in to a very unreasonable demand.

Q: If you fail to achieve the top slot in the EP, will you come back to Parliament as a National List member?

As for now, it is up to the party. We are confident of winning the election. In the event of our victory, it is not my intention to be the chief minister. This is a matter that we need to discuss together with the UNP and appoint someone of our choice, from one of the three districts.

I would prefer to remain outside Parliament for a few months, until the next general election, which will inevitably come soon, so that I could go around the country and organise the party.

Q: Do you still claim a non-contiguous council for the Muslims at a final solution to the ethnic crisis?

Everybody knows that a merged north-east, without any substantial autonomy for the Muslims and the Sinhalese, could never be a final solution. With this election, everyone will realise that a de-merged east would also result in unnecessary polarisation during elections and greedy, self-centred attempts to contest these elections, only for the sole purpose of grabbing the chief minister-ship from one community or the other.

This would only alienate the other community and result in unnecessary acrimony and divisive tendencies. The only way to prevent such an eventuality is to realise that the solution lies not in a permanent de-merger or, a permanent merger but, by agreeing to substantial autonomous arrangements for both Muslims and Sinhalese.

This subject has been discussed in many forums and there are various options we could experiment with to resolve this burning issue.

Can a political similarity happen in Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the East PC elections.

Can the Muslim representatives in the UFPA alliance who helped pull the carriage of victory of the government in the newly elected Eastern PC lay down the rules for the appointment of the CM.

The reporting in the Morning Leader today that the Muslims members from the UPFA will not support Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan in the Eastern Provincial Council administration if appointed as chief minister by the government, will turn out as a political disaster to HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa if the facts of the claims are true. It goes on record that the President made a public announcement in the run-up to the PC elections via satellite communication to the Muslim voters of the East that the CM post will be given to the community that voted the highest numbers of members to the council. Whether it will be acceptable or contradicted remains in the decision to be made by HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa on his return from the UK after making a challenging speech where the President told the Oxford Union that if Sri Lanka fails against LTTE, the world fails fight against Terrorism.

The reality of this courageous statement remains in the sincerity of resolving the new issue of naming the appropriate CM for the Eastern Provincial Council soon.

What then is the reality that the President and his advisers have to face?

With the indulgence of the would be geopolitical powers of the Indian Ocean ring, the LTTE was made to split into what it became the LTTE of Prabaharan of the North and the LTTE of Karuna Amman of the East. The struggle to split the LTTE was not a power struggle within the movement itself, rather a struggle of identity viz-a-viz the Northerners and the Easterners within the movement, induced by an outside geo-political force, a similarity to what happened to Pakistan under the regime of the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto which drew lines between Punjabis and Bengalese (the Mukti Bahini scenario). The ultimate was the divide of Pakistan into Pakistan and Bangaladesh. Though very small in comparison, what makes it different is that unlike Pakistan ( Karachi ) and Bangaladesh ( Dhaka ) which are nearly a 1000 miles apart, the North and the East are divided on either side by borders within a sovereign state. The East is also a much more multi ethnic demography with Muslim villages sand witched between Tamil villages of easterners than the North where only around 120,000 Muslims live, but have already been driven out by the LTTE. A few still remain in the Mannar district, but very negligible in terms of population statistics.

It was in this backdrop that the late Hon. M.H.M.Ashroff was able to focus the issues of the Muslim Community in the East as the primary political instrument, (though the SLMC later on embraced the Muslim issues nationally), which fetched the support of the Eastern Muslims in making the SLMC what it is today. This political dimension of the Muslims came to reality in the Provincial Elections in 1988 and later on it took a strong appearance in the local and parliamentary elections that followed – the Muslim political “Representative and Brokerage Strength” that the SLFP,UNP and the FP then, later the TULF and now the TNA cannot deny to accept. The SLMC and it's voters/supporters (poraaligal – soldiers of democracy) became the voice of the Muslims of the East as the SLMC evolved into a National political entity with the late Hon. Ashroff , the charismatic leader he was, at the helm. There was no question about his leadership and he was the SLMC to all the aspirants of the Muslim Factor and voters in the East. The ministers of the East who have now signed the demand for Mr. Hisbullah to be made the CM were just “podiyans” in the SLMC during the tenure of the late Hon. M.H..M.Ashroff. But he was proactive and gave opportunities to the young and vibrant youth who merged forward to take up the challenge of the SLMC under his commandments. The late Hon. Ashroff harnessed the vigour of these aspirants by making sure that they did not take to violence or any form of arms struggle, though the East was entrenched in a culture of violence and arms environment as a result of the ideology of the LTTE being embraced by the Tamil youth. The credit of keeping the Muslim youth of the North, North Eastern and East away from taking to arms should go to the credit of the later Hon. Ashroff and few of his close associates who can be seen as the present hierarchy of the SLMC.

The challenge of Pillayan and the Muslim reality of the PC elections.

The PC elections has clearly demonstrated the vision of the late Hon. M./H.M.Asnroff as being alive, even after his demise in 2000. The tragedy of September 16 involving an MI-17 helicopter of the Sri Lanka Air Force above the Urakanda mountain range in the Aranayaka area in Kegalle district of Sabaragamuwa province resulted in the death of a dynamic political leader of the island. Along with him were killed 14 others including crew members, security personnel, personal staff and political supporters. That created a very big democratic political vacuum, specially in the East. If HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa and his team are of opinion that Pillayan of the TMVP and a former LTTE’er can take the mantle of becoming a “DEMOCRAT” or democratic leader of the EAST, to fill the vacuum created by the demise of the late Hon. M.H.M.Ashroff, then it becomes the “REVERSAL” of DEMOCRACY in the EAST. If the process of the Pillayan group embracing DEMOCRACY was true, then the PC elections was the best opportunity to demonstrate the TRUTH – denouncing violence and laying down the arms. The foul cry made by TMVP supported by some of the Ministers of the UPFA that the Pillayan group have come into the fold of DEMOCRACY is a “little red riding hood” and the fox story.

Thus the credence of HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa as a ”true democrat” and a champion of HR has been tarnished by the deficiency of the TMVP and alliance of the UPFA not willing to lay down arms in the run-up to the PC elections. Whatever the arguments may be in terms of self defense, it still has overshadowed his credence. The Sri Lankan security forces were still capable of providing the security.

On the contrary, one of the sympathizers of the SLMC now, Mr.Segu Dawood Basheer had been one time the EROS leader for Eravur. He tucked his pistol under his shirt and sarong when he started his politics with EROS. Hon. Segu Dawood's former leader of EROS at that time was one Mr.V. Balakumar who was a confidante of LTTE leader, Mr.V.Priphaharan. There was a time when Mr.Segu Dawood vowed to defeat the SLMC by all means as (in his opinion) it was a dire threat to the struggle of the "Tamil speaking people". But the same Segu Dawood is a total “DEMOCRAT” today and has even risen in the hierarchy of the SLMC in recent times to become it’s Chairman. He is also now a confidant of Hon Rauf Hakeem the leader of the SLMC., and led the UNP/SLMC Alliance in Batticola. Mr. Segu Dawood Basheer does not carry arms.

In the force of “DEMOCRACY” Hon. Segu Dawood Basheer led the UNP/SLMC alliance and got 4 seats while the UPFA captured 6 seats.

It is the contrast of these two situations that shows the reality of the Muslims in the EAST in their democratic struggle which is “What the reality that the President and his advisers have to face”?

The President should not be used as the reason to fan violence in the EAST at any cost by a few armed Tamil militants pretending to be democratic. At the same time, the President has to face the reality that, it is the Muslims of the EAST that has given him the bulk votes and enough members to claim the majority, be privy to the 2 bonus seats and be the winning alliance in the PC elections.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa should stand by his word and help make the EAST free of any more violence of armed struggle. It is not like whether the ant is more stronger than the elephant? But the President should not allow the Muslim support (Muslim Ministers) slip from the government’s support base as it is. The President should not either allow the Muslim support in the EAST to slip too, as a result. The appointment of a Muslim CM in the East will help resolve a major part of the “Muslim Factor” issue in the political arena of the country. Otherwise, like the ant that dragged itself into the trunk of the elephant causing the elephant to kill itself by dashing the trunk to the tree, a similarity of events can happen in Sri Lankan politics, in the present scenario in the EAST. Both the government and the SLMC missed very much by not going into an alliance with the SLMC. The Muslim voters represented by the Muslim ministers are indeed SLMC votes polled because of the Presidents promise of a Muslim CM. Therefore the Muslims deserve the CM post.

The President has no time to play around in the EAST anymore. He has to take care of the North now. Taking care of the North is not just development and appointing task forces and fighting a battle – it is talking to the Tamil community, talking to the Northerners, talking to Prabaharan directly. If Ms.Priyanka Vadra, daughter of Ms.Sonia Gandhi met Ms.Nalini Sriharan, who was involved in the assassination of her father Mr.Rajiv Gandhi in Vellore on 19th March 2008 wherein Ms.Nalilini is lodged, similarly there are many possibilities for the Government to talk to the LTTE. The Government does NOT need facilitators or mediators or any truce to do that talking. A fair resolution to the issue of the appointment of the CM in the EAST will help very much to do so.

Hizbullah changes his mind again!

Agrees to accept portfolio in new Eastern Provincial Council

In a saga of unexpected twists and turns, UPFA Eastern Provincial Councillor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah who earlier threatened rebellion yesterday agreed to accept the portfolio of Provincial Health Minister and remain with the UPFA, informed sources said. He is likely to take his oaths on Wednesday.

A highly placed government minister said that after discussions with President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees, Mr. Hizbullah had agreed to accept the portfolio and with the other members of his group pledged to support the ruling party led by Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan. The President had assured he would not allow any injustice to the Muslims in the East.

Mohamed Subair and Jawahir Mohamed Saly were the other two councillors who joined Mr. Hizbullah in expressing their dissent over Friday’s appointment of Mr. Chandrakanthan as Chief Minister and had informed the Eastern Province Governor that the three councillors had decided to act as an independent group.

However, Mr. Hizbullah told the President that he would further consult his supporters in Batticaloa before announcing his decision.

The meeting was attended by UPFA General Secretary Susil Premjayantha, Governor Alavi Moulana, Ministers Dulles Allahapperuma and Rishad Badiyudeen.

On Saturday Mr. Hizbullah had held talks with Minister Basil Rajapaksa and also held a long telephone conversation with Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan who assured that all work relating to Muslims will be entrusted to Mr. Hizbullah.

Mr. Chandrakanthan had said that there was no need to create a problem at this time and everyone should get together to develop the province.

The Chief Minister had also proposed to Mr. Hizbullah that he make a proclamation after taking oaths as a Minister that there were no problems between the two.

“I will take a decision only with the consent of my people in the East. I must consult them and obtain their approval before accepting any post other than that of the Chief Minister. This was what my people expected of me. I have no qualms about sitting as an ordinary member in the council,” he said.

கிழக்கு மாகாண சபை முதலமைச்சராக எம்.எல்.ஏ.எம்.ஹிஸ்புல்லாவை நியமிக்க சிறிலங்கா அரச தலைவருக்கு அழுத்தம் கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று ஈரான் அரச தலைவரை கோரிக்கை விடுக்கப்பட்டதாக அரசியல் வட்டாரங்களில் இருந்து அறியவருகிறது.

கிழக்கின் தேர்தல

இருபது வருடங்களின் பின்னர் பிரிந்த கிழக்கின் தேர்தல் எதிர்பார்க்கப்பட்டது போலவே ஜனநாயகத்தை குழிதோண்டிப்புதைத்துவிட்டு நடந்து முடிந்துள்ளது. முஸ்லிம்களைப்பொறுத்தவரையில் இத்தேர்தல் முடிவுகள் பல்வேறு உண்மைகளையும் படிப்பிணைகளையும் விட்டுச்சென்றுள்ளது. ஒவ்வொருகட்டங்களிலும் நாமும் எமது அரசியல்வாதிகளும் தொடர்ந்தும் படிப்பினைபெறுபவர்களாகவே இருக்கப்போகின்றோமா என்ற பெரிய வினாவுடன் இப்பத்தியை வரைகின்றேன். கிழக்கின் தேர்தல் முஸ்லிம்களின் உண்மையான பலத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தும் ஒரு அரிய சந்தர்ப்பமாகவே எமக்கு முன்னால் வந்து நின்றது.

இலங்கையில் முஸ்லிம்களுக்கும் ஒரு இருப்பு இருக்கின்றது, இனப்பிரச்சினையில் முஸ்லிம்களும் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள், முஸ்லிம்களும் ஒரு தனியான இனமாக, தனியான தரப்பாக ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்படவேண்டும் என்ற கோஷங்களுக்கு செயல்வடிவம் கொடுப்பதற்கும், அதனை தேசிய சர்வதேசிய ரீதியில் நிருவுவதற்கும் கிடைத்த அரிய சந்தர்ப்பமாகவே கிழக்கின் தேர்தல் எதிர்பார்க்கப்பட்டது, ஆனால் எமது தலைவர்கள் என கூறிக்கொள்ளும் சுயநல வியாபாரிகளின் செயற்பாடுகளினால் எமது சமூகம் மீண்டும் ஒரு அரிய சந்தர்ப்பத்தை இழந்து நடுத்தெருவில் நிற்கின்றது.

தேர்தலுக்கு முன்னமே முஸ்லிம்தரப்பு குறித்த தேர்தலில் எவ்வாறு பங்கேற்கப்போகின்றது என்பது குறித்து பலரும் பல கருத்துக்களை முன்வைத்திருந்தனர். ஒரு சிலர் முஸ்லிம் தரப்பு அரசுடன் இணையவேண்டும் என்றும், இன்னுமொருசாரார் முஸ்லிம்தரப்பு தனித்துப்போட்டியிடவேண்டும் என்றும் வலுவாக விவாதித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், அரசுடன் கூட்டுச்சேர்ந்துள்ள அமைச்சர்கள் மு.காவின் சின்னத்தில் அல்லாது வேறு ஒரு பொதுச்சின்னத்தில் போட்டியிடுவதற்கு மு.காவை அழைத்தனர், இதன் பின்னால் உள்ள நயவஞ்சகத்தனத்தை முதன்மைப்படுத்தி ரவூப் ஹக்கீம் மேற்படி முன்மொழிவை நிராகரித்தார்.

“இலங்கையின் இனப்பிரச்சினை சர்வதேச சந்தையொன்றின் வியாபாரப்பண்டம்” என்ற கருத்து குறித்த தேர்தலின் மூலம் மீண்டும் நிரூபனமாகியுள்ளது. மகிந்தவின் அரசும் பேரினவாத சக்திகளும் இந்தியாவின் நிழலின் கீழ் ஒரு அணியாகவும். எதிர்கட்சி, விடுதலைப்புலிகள் மேற்கத்தேய அரசுகளின் நிழலின் கீழ் ஒரு அணியாகவும் திரண்டு யார் இனப்பிரச்சினை விவகாரத்தை அதிகாரப்பூர்வமாக கையில் எடுப்பது என்று பலப்பரீட்சை நடத்திக்கொண்டிருக்கின்றார்கள். எனவே கிழக்கின் தேர்தல் இரு சாராருக்கும் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த ஒன்றாகவே இருந்தது. இங்கு வேதனை தருகின்ற விடயம் என்னவென்றால் மேற்படி சூதாட்டத்தில் முஸ்லிம் தரப்பும் பங்கேற்றுக்கொண்டதுதான். மகிந்தவை கிழக்கின் மாகாணசபைத்தேர்தலுக்குல் வலுக்கட்டாயமாக இழுத்துவந்தது ஐ.தேசியக்கட்சியும் இந்தியாவும்தான். ஐ.தே. தான் தேர்தலில் போட்டியிடப்போவதில்லை என்று மீண்டும் மீண்டும் கூறித்திரிந்தது, மறுபக்கத்தில் இந்தியா 13வது திருத்தச்சட்டத்தை அமுல்படுத்தும்படி அதிக அழுத்தம் கொடுத்தது. எனவே மகிந்த மேற்படி இரு நிலைகளின் சாதகங்களின் அடிப்படையில் தேர்தலில் குதித்தார். திரைமறைவில் ஏராளமான விடயங்கள் அரங்கேறி முடிந்தன.

ரவூப்ஹக்கீமும் தனது பங்கிற்கு தானும் தனித்தே போட்டியிடப்போவதாக அறிவித்தார், கருத்துக்கணிப்புகள் செய்தார், புத்திஜீவிகள் மார்க்க அறிஞ்ர்களை சந்தித்தார், என்றாலும் இறுதியில் தான் ஐ.தேவுடன் இணைந்து யானைச்சின்னத்தில் போட்டியிடுவதாக அறிவித்தார், ஹிஸ்புல்லாஹ் உடனடியாக கட்சிதாவினார், தன் குற்றங்களை மறைக்க அவருக்கு கட்சி தாவலைவிட வேறு எதுவும் கை கொடுக்காது என்பது அவருக்கு நன்கு தெரிந்தவிடயம். பதிலுக்கு மு.கா தலைவர்,தவிசாளர்,கூடவே பொதுச்செயலாளர் என மூன்று முக்கியபுள்ளிகள் தமது பாராளுமன்ற ஆசனங்களை துரந்து சமூகத்தின் நலன்கருதி கிழக்கை கைப்பற்றுவோம் என்று வீராப்புடன் களமிறங்கினர்.

தேர்தல் தினமும் வந்தது இருபக்கத்தின் வியாபாரிகளும் தமது நலனுக்கு பாதிப்பு வரக்கூடாது என்பதற்காக எதையும் செய்யத்துணிந்தனர், மு.கா வளர்த்துவிட்ட பாயிஸும், ரிஷாதும் மு.காவிற்கு எதிராகவே மு.காவின் தாயகத்தில் வன்முறைகள் செய்ததாக அறியக்கிடைத்தது. இறுதியாக அரசு வெற்றிபெற்றதாக தேர்தல் முடிவுகளும் வெளியாகின.

மு.கா மீண்டும் ஒருமுறை ஒப்பாரிவைக்கத்துவங்கியது. நியாயமற்ற தேர்தல், பகற்கொள்ளை என்றெல்லாம் கூறியது, மறுபக்கத்தில் யார் முதலமைச்சர் என்பது குறித்த இழுபறிகள் விவாகாரமாயின. ஆனாலும் இருதரப்பும் தமது எஜமானர்களை திருப்த்திபடுத்துவதிலேயே அதிக கவனம் செலுத்தினர். மு.காவும் ஐ.தே.கவும் மேற்கைத்தேயர்களை திருப்த்திப்படுத்தவும், ஐ.ம.சு.கூ இந்தியாவையும் திருப்த்திப்படுத்துவதிலுமே அதிக கவனத்துடன் இருப்பது புலப்படுகின்றது. இதனூடாக மட்டுமே தமது நலன்கள் பேணப்படும் என்பது அவர்களது எதிர்பார்ப்பு.

இத்தேர்தலில் முஸ்லிம்தரப்பு இரு அணிகளாகவே களம் கண்டது, ஒன்று அரசுடன் ஒட்டிக்கொண்டுள்ள தற்காலிக முகவர்கள், அடுத்து மு.கா என்னும் முஸ்லிம் சமூக அடையாளம், இதில் தற்காலிக முகவர்கள் குறித்த கவலை அதிகம் எமக்குத்தேவை இல்லை எனினும் மு.கா குறித்தே எமது அதிக கவனம் செல்கின்றது, மு.கா தனது வரலாற்றில் மீண்டும் ஒருதடவை அதள பாதளத்திற்கே சென்றுள்ளது என்றுதான் எண்ணத்தோன்றுகின்றது, கிழக்கிழங்கை முஸ்லிம் காங்கிரஸின் தாயக பூமி, இனப்பிரச்சினையில் முஸ்லிம்களி பங்கு அதிகம் சட்டரீதியாக வலுப்படுத்தப்படவேண்டிய தேவயுள்ள சூழலில், முஸ்லிம்கள் ஆயுதக்குழுக்களாலும், புலிகளாலும் அச்சுருத்தப்படும் சூழலில் நாம் தேர்தலை எதிர்கொண்டோம், எனவே தூய்மையாக சமூகநலனை மட்டும் கருத்தில் கொள்ளும் ஒரு கட்சியாக மு.கா இருக்குமாயின் முஸ்லிம்களின் மொத்தப்பலத்தையும் காட்டுவது பொருத்தமா, அல்லது தமது எஜமானர்களின் கனவுகளை நனவாக்குவது பொருத்தமா, மு.கா இரண்டாவதையே செய்யத்துணிந்தது. ஐ.தே.கவின் நலன்களுக்கு துணைபோவதே தனித்துவத்தலைவரின் முடிவாகியது. முஸ்லிம் சமூகத்தின் நலன்குறித்து எதுவித அக்கறையும் இன்றி முஸ்லிம் சமூகத்தை மீண்டும் ஒருதடவை வேதனை மிகுந்த அரசியல் சூனியத்திற்குள் வலுக்கட்டாயாமக நகர்த்தியதே அவரது சதனைகளாகும்.

முஸ்லிம் காங்கிரஸ் கிழக்கில் தனித்துப்போட்டியிடுவதில் என்ன பாதகம் இருக்கின்றது? இந்த வினாவிற்கு இன்னமும் மு.காவிடமிருந்து உருப்படியான பதில் எதுவும் வந்ததாக அறிய முடியவில்லை. தனித்துப்போட்டியிட்டிருந்தால் ஒன்றில் முஸ்லிம்களின் வாக்குப்பலத்தினை மட்டும் வைத்து கிழக்கின் பெறும்பான்மையினைக்கைப்பற்றியிருக்க முடியும் அல்லது மிகப்பிரதான பேரம்பேசும் சக்தியாக திகழ்ந்திருக்க முடியும். இன்னொருகோணத்தில் அரசுடன் ஒட்டிகொண்டுள்ள தற்காலிக முகவர்களின் வாக்குப்பலவீனத்தை நிரூபித்து முஸ்லிம் சமூகத்தின் பிரதான பிரதிநிதியாக மு.காவை நிலைநிருத்தியிருக்க முடியும். மாற்றமாக மு.கா செய்ததெல்லாம் மீண்டும் எமது தனித்துவம் இழந்து பெரும்பான்மைக்கட்சிகளுடன் கூட்டுச்சேரும் வெட்கம்கெட்டசெயலை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியதும், தற்காலிக முகவர்களின் செயற்பாடுகளுக்கு உரமிடும் வகையில் நடந்துகாட்டியதுமேயாகும்.

தொகுதிவாரியான முடிவுகளை நோக்குமிடத்து குறித்த சில தொகுதிகளில் மு.காவின் பலம் சரிவடைந்திருப்பதனையும் அவதானிக்க முடிகின்றது. அத்துடன் பெருன்பான்மைக் கட்சிகளின் தற்காலிக முகவர்களாக செயற்படும் அமைச்சர்கள் தமது வாக்குப்பலத்தை எடைபோடுவதற்கும் மு.கா வழி செய்தது என்றே சொல்லத்தோன்றுகின்றது.

தொகுதிவாரியான முடிவுகளின்படி அம்பாறை மாவட்டத்தில் கல்முனை தவிர்ந்த ஏனைய தொகுதிகளை மு.கா இழந்துள்ளது. மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டத்தில் எல்லாத்தொகுதிகளையுமே மு.கா இழந்துள்ளது திருகோணமலை மாவட்டத்தில் மு.கா வெற்றி பெற்றுள்ளது. மிக அதிக அளவிலான தேர்தல் மோசடிகள் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளமை யாவரும் அறிந்த விடயமே, பொதுவாக ஜனநாயக அலகொன்றில் இத்தகைய மோசடிகள் ஒன்றும் புதிதல்ல, அதுவும் மிகப்பலவீனமான ஜனநாயக அலகொன்றைக்கொண்ட இலங்கைபோன்ற தேசமொன்றில், தமது சொந்த இலாபத்தை அடிப்படையாகக்கொண்ட அரச இயந்திரமொன்று செயற்படும் சூழலில் இத்தகைய மோசடிகள் இடம்பெறாது என்றும், அல்லது அவ்வாறு இடம்பெற்றாலும் கூட அதனை நீதியின் முன் நிறுத்தி சத்தியத்தை நிலைநாட்டலாம் என்று எதிர்பார்ப்பதும் அரசியல் முதிர்ச்சியின்மையினையே காட்டுகின்றது. எனவே உண்மையான திட்டமிடல் ஞானம் உள்ளவர்களாயின் குறித்த ஒரு சூழல் ஏற்படாமல் எவ்வாறு தேர்தலை நகர்த்துவது என்பதில்தான் அதிக கவனம் செலுத்தியிருக்க வேண்டுமே தவிர, நடந்து முடிந்த பின்னர் ஒப்பாரிவைப்பது அழகல்ல. மு.காவைப்பொறுத்தவரையிலும் ரவூப் ஹக்கிமைப்பொறுத்தவரையிலும் இவை குறித்த அறிவு இல்லாதவர்கள் என்பதை ஏற்க முடியாது, மாறாக தமது நிகழ்ச்சிநிரழுக்குள் மேற்படி விவகாரம் முக்கியத்துவமற்ற ஒன்று என்பதாலேயே அவர்கள் குறித்த விடயத்தை விடுத்து மாற்று வழிகளில் சிந்திக்கவும் செய்ற்படவும் துணிந்தனர். அசத்தியம் ஒருபோதும் நிலைக்காது என்பதற்கு மு.காவின் தோல்வியும் ஒரு உதாரணமாகிப்போனது.

மறுபுரம் அரசுடன் இணைந்துள்ள தற்காலிக முகவர்களின் தேவையெல்லாம், மஹிந்த அரசினையும் அவர்களது திட்டங்களையும் வெற்றிபெறச்செய்வதே தவிர முஸ்லிம் சமூகத்தின் நலன் அல்ல. எனவே இன்று அரசுடன் இணைந்து முஸ்லிம்களுக்கு எதிராகவே வன்முறைகள் செய்வதற்கும் துணிந்துவிட்டார்கள், அப்படி இல்லையென்றால் புத்தளத்தில் உள்ள பாயிஸுக்கும் ரிஷாதுக்கும் திருகோணமலையில் என்ன வேலை வேண்டிக்கிடக்கின்றது. மன்னாரில் இருந்து இடம்பெயர்ந்தவர்களை அழைத்து வந்து கள்ள வாக்குப்பதியவைக்கும் ரிசாதின் கேவலமான செயற்பாட்டை என்னவென்று சொல்லுவது. மட்டக்களப்பில் அமீரலியின் அடாவடித்தனங்களையும் அம்பாறையில் அதாவுல்லாவின் கொட்டத்தையும் காணுகின்றபோது தமது எஜமானர்களை திருப்ப்திப்படுத்துவதில் இவர்களுக்கு உள்ள கரிசனையும் கடையர்களின் அரசியல் முறையின் அசிங்கத்தையும் எழுதுவதற்கு வார்த்தைகள் இல்லை. ஆனால் எல்லாமே சமூகத்தின் பெயராலேயே அரங்கேறுகின்றது.

ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக கிழக்கில் முஸ்லிம்களின் பலத்தை நிரூபிக்கக்கிடைதத ஒரு அரிய சந்தர்ப்பத்தை எல்லாத்தரப்புமே பரிகொடுத்துவிட்டு இன்று முதலைமச்சருக்கும் இன்னும் இதர அமைச்சுக்களுக்கும் அடிபடும் அவலம் எம்மை சூழ்ந்துகொண்டுள்ளது. எம்மவர்களுக்கு இதுவல்ல இன்னுமின்னும் பல சந்தர்ப்பங்கள் வரினும் தமது சொந்த நலன் குறித்த நிகழ்ச்சி நிரலை முதன்மைப்படுத்தும் தலைவர்கள் இருக்கும் காலமெல்லாம் எதுவும் பலன் தரப்போவதில்லை.
